About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. This is a time-limited position. It is full-time (40 hours per week) with State Benefits for a limited time. The primary purpose of this position is to support the Financial and Business Services operations to meet the business needs of the Department of Public Instruction. This includes providing independent consultation to DPI leadership and directors; assessing and analyzing current processes and data to ensure there is integrity in the financial systems and integration with the program divisions; preparing fiscal notes in response of Rules; and creating and documenting programs and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and Microsoft Office Suite product, and/or financial systems.
  • Experience in analyzing data and using tools such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, Power Query, MS Access.
  • Experience in written communication and program reports, including experience in consulting, project management, or a similar field.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Financial Business Services area in assessing and analyzing current processes, projects and data.
  • Analyze the cause of inconsistencies in the data, identifying the root cause and presenting a solution. These data may be from systems internal and/or external to DPI, with a specific emphasis on newly modernized systems.
  • Evaluate the current processes impacting FBS, document the processes and provide recommendations to improve the process.
  • Upon the approval of the director of school business, implement the recommendations including developing necessary policies.
  • Consult with stakeholders both internally and externally to DPI to assess the impact of projects on these stakeholders.
  • Support the Financial and Business Services area on special projects, as assigned by the senior director of school business and/or chief financial officer.
  • Develop a plan to complete the projects, timelines, and progress reports.
  • Initiate progress reports both verbally and in written form.
