This is an anticipated vacancy effective May 1st, 2026. The LP-Gas Compliance Officer is the technical expert and program manager for the LP-Gas Section of the Standards Division, North Carolina Department of Agriculture. The purpose of this job is to provide technical expertise and opinions on behalf of the activities of the LP-Gas Section to enforce the North Carolina LP-Gas Law as mandated by Chapter 119, Article 5 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, and Title 2, NCAC, Chapter 38 .0700; the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act of 1975 as mandated by Chapter 8lA, Article 1 of the General Statutes of North Carolina as it pertains to LP-Gas meters and liquid nitrogen solution meters; and the North Carolina Fertilizer Law as mandated by Chapter 106, Article 56 of the General Statutes of North Carolina as it pertains to anhydrous ammonia. This position is responsible for establishing the priorities of the section and planning how the personnel, equipment and other resources will be used to drive the program forward toward achieving these goals. This individual monitor the work of the section with respect to its organization and procedures to maintain an effective and efficient program. They project the budgetary needs of the section with respect to the operation, maintenance, and replacement of equipment, normal operational supplies, and other similar items. They are responsible for collecting and analyzing the statistical data regarding the program’s performance and use this information to make adjustments to prevent shortcomings. This person serves as the primary liaison for the LP-gas program and the Department with nationally and internationally recognized Standards organizations such as the NFPA and UL. This position works closely with the three lead inspectors to develop and establish work standards, policies, and procedures for the inspection staff. The position also reviews violations to assign civil penalties, approves extension requests regarding required repairs/reinspection and issues requests and complaint investigations. This person also works with the lead inspectors to complete personnel related functions such as interviews and candidate selections, performance appraisals, promotions, suggested salary adjustment for employees, and disciplinary actions.
