About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under general supervision of the Program Director, Program Staff provide direct supervision of children during programmed experiences and activities during seasonal residential camp. They facilitate an encouraging and safe environment and create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships. Program staff promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a resident camp setting
  • Become CPR/First Aid Certified within established YMCA timeline
  • Complete YMCA required certification training for program area within established timeline

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, rock climbing, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.…

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily set up, inspection, cleanup, and operation of assigned activity area at Camp Edwards.
  • Provides instruction to guests regarding safety and operation of activities to ensure safety and smooth operation.
  • Plans and implements program activities which are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Program areas include but may not be limited to:
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Communicates program details, training materials and schedule changes to staff and campers effectively.
  • Facilitates organized group games for campers.
  • Participates in and leads Campfire songs and activities.
  • Participates in and leads Morning Inspirational for campers.
  • Services and cleans all assigned guest rooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, buildings, offices and other areas in accordance to cleaning standards.
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
