About The Position

The Samaritan Inn is a comprehensive homeless program that helps willing people gain dignity and independence. Position Description Position Title: Program Specialist Reports to: Program Specialist Team Lead Non-Exempt: X Pay rate: $16-18/hour Summary of the Job: Provide direct care in a team environment to assist homeless persons in obtaining their goal of self-sufficiency. Assist homeless residents with completion of shelter programs by facilitating day-to-day housekeeping, attendance of pillar programs, maintaining standards of rules and regulations for residents, conduct an informative residential meeting while ensuring the safety of the shelter and its residents. Act as communication liaison between caseworkers, counselors, and executive cabinet to keep all staff aware of pertinent resident issues. Essential Functions: Utilize resident handbook guidelines, ethics & boundaries, and communication skills to provide encouragement and appropriate professional support to residents in addition to compliance with expectations for residents/staff/volunteers. Support and oversee the safety of the facility. Implement crisis intervention when necessary and communicate with outside emergency personnel utilizing proper boundaries. Welcome and assist donors, volunteers, and potential applicants, providing community referrals and alternate outside service provider information when needed. Oversee and maintain mail for residents and staff by checking the mailbox daily and delivering mail between buildings. Utilize program requirements to accurately inform incoming residents and provide initial contact for those applying to the program. Communicate quickly and effectively with other staff in both verbal and written fashion. Oversee resident’s daily medications. Utilize appropriate documents to record data on residents, including shift-to-shift communications and shift reports. Properly utilize radio communication when necessary, during shifts. Maintain cleanliness of key areas on property: staff break rooms, staff fridges, intake area, and lobby. Maintain interactions with residents and a staff presence around both buildings and property. Supervisory Responsibilities None Required Education/Experience: High school diploma required, some college coursework in social work, psychology, or related field preferred. Experience working in a non-profit or multi-cultural environment preferred. Skills: Problem-solver who can think outside the box and enjoy the fun in an innovative and fast paced environment. Basic computer skills, good reflective listening skills, and the use of empathy and patience. Other Requirements : Excellent problem-solving and verbal de-escalation skills. Ability and willingness to express empathy and patience. Ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift 25 pounds. Ability to work shifts including day, evening, overnight, weekends, and holidays. Requirements
