About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, this position guides special population students to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that are non-traditional. Duties include providing clerical support for the Career Development Program; promoting the Program to special populations of students; and providing related career guidance. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gathers career and labor market information; maintains and updates promotional materials for the Career Development Program; and ensures clerical functions operate smoothly and efficiently. Assists with recruitment activities; guides students to high wage career training. Provides assistance to students in special populations such as single parents, including single pregnant women, out-of-workforce individuals, and those preparing for non-traditional fields leading to high wage careers. Evaluates applications; allocates tuition funds for students who qualify. May provide services to the financial and economic literacy of participants. Provides analytical data regarding recruitment, retention, completion, and job placement for students; assists with the planning and implementation of completion and retention efforts for Career and Technical Education students; and updates, maintains, and distributes reports to all CTE areas. Facilitates training; coordinates classes; assists in securing and coordinating speakers for events; schedules rooms; and maintains information and classes on website. Processes invoices. Represents gender equity programs at conferences and workshops. Develops and implements the evaluation of activities carried out with funds under Perkins. Serves as a liaison between various Divisions in Applied Science and Technology and the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment. Serves as a liaison between the Career Development Program and the staff at the Career Source Research Coast Center. Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field (higher degree preferred)
  • Two (2) years of related work experience in career counseling
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
  • Knowledge of career pathways, counseling techniques, and IRSC programs
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and office functions
  • Skill in counseling others
  • Skill in organizing; prioritizing, managing time, and effectively using resources
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications
  • Ability to be accurate and detail oriented, work independently, and be self-motivated
