About The Position

The Program Specialist is responsible to the Director of Special Services or designee regarding program development and curricular resources. Major duties of the Program Specialist will be the assessment of the effectiveness of the Individualized Education Programs for pupils with exceptional needs and evaluation of designated staff members. This position has been designated as an entry-level managerial position.

  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures related to programs and services for pupils with exceptional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coordination, consultation and program development primarily in stipulated areas of expertise.
  • Participates in the Individualized Education Program Team for pupils with exceptional needs when appropriate.
  • Provides liaison services between the District, non-puplic schools, county-operated programs, and other school districts to assure appropriate educational services for pupils with exceptional needs.
  • Coordinates the planning, implementing and providing staff development for special education teachers, administrators, support personnel and regular classroom teachers.
  • Provides consultation to special education teachers, administrators, support personnel, and regular teachers regarding the writing and implementation of Individualized Educational Programs.
  • Observes, consults with, and assists Resource Specialists, Designated Instruction and Services staff and Special Day Class teachers in stipulated area(s) of expertise.
  • Reviews and observes pupils with exceptional needs, and prepares written reports of findings when appropriate.
  • Coordinates programs, plans curriculum resources, and evaluates the appropriateness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs.
  • Participates in the development of innovative instructional methods to meet the exceptional needs of pupils.
  • Provides information to parent groups regarding special education programs, services and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures related to programs and services for pupils with exceptional needs.
  • Attends and participates in appropriate meetings as requested by the Director of Special Services.
  • Evaluate specific staff members assigned by Director of Special Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
