About The Position

This position manages co-curricular and extra-curricular outreach activities and programs for the College Farm to engage with, educate, mentor, and empower Dickinson College students. Additionally, the position will assist with business and staff management at the farm's on-campus store, Farm Works. The position will oversee existing education and outreach programs, as well as cultivate partnerships across campus to develop new initiatives aimed at increasing campus exposure and student access to the College Farm and its mission. The position will assist with the operations of Farm Works including kitchen support and product development, maintaining and diversifying store inventories, and helping to train and manage student employees. The position functions with limited supervision to complete the requirements for the role and will develop systems to handle constant and evolving priorities, as well as meet goals and deadlines in support of College Farm mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee existing College Farm outreach programs in collaboration with campus partners to ensure programs are well-organized and advertised, fully executed, and succeed at meeting stated outcomes. This includes flagship events like Harvest Fest, Oktoberfest, Wellness Retreat, Pre-Orientation, Summer Event Series, and Careers in the Food System. Attend events or fully delegate and empower oversight responsibilities to student employees or apprentices. Maintain an active campus presence through in-person and online engagement. This is a campus-based position requiring in-person work. Given the nature of this position, the Program Outreach Coordinator will assume non-traditional work hours 1-2 times per month to support events and programs.
  • Build new partnerships through collaborative programming with other campus departments, student groups, and local organizations, secure funding in support of new programming initiatives through revenue generation schemes, grant writing, or donor support. Ensure new program ideas meet the current needs and interests of Dickinson students, are well-organized and advertised, fully executed, and succeed at meeting stated outcomes. Attend events or fully delegate and empower oversight responsibilities to student employees or apprentices. Maintain an active campus presence through in-person and online engagement. This is a campus-based position requiring in-person work. Given the nature of this position, the Program Outreach Coordinator will assume non-traditional work hours 1-2 times per month to support events and programs.
  • Maintain ServeSafe certification and develop new menu items in support of expanding business hours and diversifying product offerings at Farm Works. Assist seasonally with food preservation, new product development, and mass production of key menu items. Actively maintain store inventories and assist with production when inventories are low. This will include being trained in the production of herbal remedies and fermentation.
  • Train and help oversee student staff at the Farm Works store ensuring that this operation has full coverage during store hours. Assist in the kitchen and store as needed to fill staffing gaps should they occur.
  • Oversee and continually improve the College Farm's online outreach including two Instagram accounts, Facebook account, blog, and website.
  • Assist at times at the College Farm and engage in the physical work of farming not only to meet production goals but also to develop a professional connection to the ebb and flow of the College Farm and generate ideas for future College Farm programs.
