The Program Manager at First Steps Kent is responsible for leading initiatives under the Ready by Five (RB5) millage to enhance early childhood services in Kent County, Michigan. This role involves managing operational processes, collaborating with community partners, and advocating for early childhood development to ensure that children enter kindergarten healthy and prepared for success. The position offers a unique opportunity to drive systemic change and make a significant impact on the lives of young children and their families.

  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate operational processes for RB5 financial management and organizational planning.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities to achieve goals within prescribed timelines and budgets.
  • Represent the organization in early childhood advocacy, attending governmental meetings, legislative hearings, and community events as needed.
  • Review, interpret, and assess contracts, grants, and legal documents to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for legal, financial, and operational compliance.
  • Stay current on changes in grant regulations, funding guidelines, and legal standards.
  • Draft and revise contract language, grant agreements, and amendments.
  • Build and sustain relationships with partners, parents, stakeholders, and community organizations.
  • Support the Resident Proposal Review Board and related parent engagement strategies.
  • Develop and adapt policies and procedures for RB5 funding to meet organizational and regulatory needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public/Nonprofit Administration, Communications, Human Services, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in project coordination, business development, coalition building, grant management, community organizing, or systems development.
  • 1-3 years in nonprofit, public relations, or communication campaign development.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello, MS Project).
  • PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • A strong ethical principle, emphasizing integrity and confidentiality in all work.
  • Self-motivated individual who also values teamwork and collaboration.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
