About The Position

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The Department of Youth and Community Development’s Comprehensive Afterschool System of NYC (COMPASS) formerly known as the Out-of-School Time Program is comprised of over 800 programs serving young people enrolled in grades K-12. Through its network of providers, COMPASS offers high quality programs that offer a strong balance of academics, recreation, enrichment, and cultural activities that build 21st century skills. COMPASS providers are awarded funds through a competitive Request For Proposal (RFP) process. Program Managers monitor and provide support to the COMPASS portfolio of youth programs. A primary focus of their monitoring is ensuring the DYCD-funded agencies are following all required health and safety protocols. The COMPASS initiative provides childcare services to low-income working families across New York City during the school year, school holidays, and summer months. Over 100,000 young people participate in the COMPASS program annually. In addition, childcare participants receive meals, academic enrichment, and cultural and recreational programming. The SONYC initiative is one of the largest Mayoral initiatives, which serves more than 62,000 middle school youth annually. The Program Manager's role is key to the success of the initiative. Program Managers are responsible for ensuring contractual compliance and providing programmatic support to providers who operate after-school services for middle school youth.
