About The Position

Richmond Area Multi-Services (RAMS) is a private, non-profit mental health agency that is committed to advocating for and providing community based, consumer-guided services. RAMS offers behavioral health, social, vocational, and educational services that aim to meet the needs of the diverse communities in the City. Our agency is recognized by the local and national social service community as having expertise in providing culturally competent mental health services to the underserved, with expertise in working with the Asian & Pacific Islander and Russian-speaking populations. RAMS Kindezi works in collaboration with UCSF EMBRACE, Perinatal Care for Black Families, Homeless Children’s Network’s Black Birthing Health Initiative, Black Infant Health Program, and other community birthworkers focused on reducing inequitable care and Black maternal and infant birthing disparities. By collaborating with community midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, and others, Kindezi is able to offer a holistic approach to perinatal care, seamlessly integrating it with high-quality mental wellness support. As RAMS’ first behavioral health program specifically created to improve perinatal outcomes for Black families, Kindezi serves as a vital resource, blending tradition, cultural responsiveness, and clinical excellence to support families on their journey. Provide oversight of day-to-day operations of RAMS Kindezi Black Perinatal Mental Health program, and direct supervision of program staff, which focuses on increasing culturally-congruent practices and interventions for Black/African American birthing families in San Francisco.

Requirements

At least a Master’s degree in one of the following relevant fields:
Social Work (MSW)
Counseling or Clinical Psychology
Public Health (MPH) (with maternal and child health focus)
Nursing (with maternal and/or behavioral health focus)
Public Administration (with maternal and/or mental health emphasis)
(OR Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years relevant and similar program management experience)
At least 3 years in behavioral health, maternal/child health, or community mental health.
At least 2 years of program coordination, supervision, or project management
Expertise and demonstrable knowledge of the history of Black women’s reproductive health care in the United States, of anti-racist and reproductive justice frameworks, and of the mental health, social and cultural needs of Black/African American communities
Knowledge of and experience in addressing maternal mental health disparities and Black/African American perinatal outcomes in San Francisco
Demonstrated work experience with:
Perinatal mental health, infant/early-child development, or maternal health programs centering Black birthing families
Trauma-informed, culturally-responsive healing-centered care implementation
Working with underserved or culturally diverse populations, specifically with the Black/African American community
Community behavioral health systems
Can demonstrate competencies and experience in these areas:
Program planning and implementation
Operational workflow development
Data-driven decision-making and quality improvement
Curriculum design

Nice To Haves

Clinical Licensure with the Board of Psychology (PSY) or Board of Behavioral Sciences (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) preferred but not required
Lived or professional experience with communities most impacted by perinatal inequities,
Demonstrated understanding of California perinatal health care system and initiatives, and community perinatal wellness services, including the integration of midwives into the public health system
Knowledge and experience in working with California Medi-Cal, County behavioral health systems and documentation standards
Experience in collaborating and partnership-building across health systems, community agencies, and public health
Strong computer skills and knowledge/experience working with various technology programs including digital communication and project management software
Exceptional organizational skills with reliability and consistency in work performance, as well as ability to multi-task with the capability to learn quickly and integrate efficiently
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work effectively, function independently, and interact professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary staff of all levels
Ability to present feedback in a positive and empowering manner
Exceptional communication, reading, and writing skills with the ability to understand and interpret written instructions, and effectively communicate to program staff, program partners, vendors, and communities served
Strong commitment to the philosophy, goals, and mission of RAMS and Kindezi in providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health services to the community
Commitment to engaging in professional development activities such as trainings, continuing education seminars, and reviewing up-to-date material, etc.

Responsibilities

Support Associate Director in the collaboration, planning, and coordination of program services and activities
Implementation and oversight of outreach and engagement practices for pregnant/expecting Black/African American clients, including those who are currently underserved by the County mental health plan
Implementation of perinatal cultural practices that emphasize elements of the Sankofa framework
With guidance from Associate Director, manage the development, implementation and quality assurance of culturally adaptive perinatal interventions and practices that increase client satisfaction, efficacy, and retention
Support Associate Director in planning and development of program activities, in alignment with long and short-term goals of the multi-disciplinary project
Support Associate Director to develop workflow to improve program operations
Manage the day to day workflow and professional development of program staff to include maternal health coaching and training activities for all clinical and administrative staff, to support staff readiness to deliver quality outreach, engagement, and education activities
Provide the coordination and facilitation of prenatal groups, or direct staff and their workflows to support this service delivery
In coordination with Associate Director, will monitor significant developments and trends in community birthwork and perinatal and public health priorities, and keep clinical staff up to date.
Keep clinical staff abreast of opportunities for continuing education specifically related to Black maternal health and community birth work
Develop and maintain a glossary of maternal health terms for the behavioral health team
Develop and maintain a patient navigation resource guide for Community Resource Navigators
Develop and uphold guidelines for vetting potential perinatal providers
Together with Associate Director, maintain and nurture collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
Support the Associate Director with the overall development, identity and branding of the program. Serve as an advisor to the communications and marketing team, including website design, development, and function.
Represent RAMS EMBRACE in written and oral communication in collaboration with the Associate Director
Work with the Associate Director to adhere to grant requirements and reporting deadlines, including providing reporting data for Associate Director’s reports
