Founded locally in 1911, the Northern California & Northern Nevada affiliate of Volunteers of America (VOA-NCNN) is one of the largest providers of social services in the region, operating more than 40 programs including housing, employment services, substance abuse, and recovery services to families, individuals, veterans, seniors, and youth. In fact, VOA-NCNN provides shelter or housing to over 3,500 men, women, and children every night. OUR MISSION: To change individual lives, instill hope, increase self-worth and facilitate independence through quality housing, employment, and related supportive services. Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada inspires self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope by providing critical health and human services to thousands of vulnerable individuals and families across Northern California & Northern Nevada. PROGRAM AND LOCATION: We are currently recruiting for a Program Manager position for the Open Arms program. Open Arms provides immediate safety to those diagnosed as HIV-Positive or those living with AIDS in Sacramento. Singles diagnosed as HIV-positive, or those who are living with AIDS, are eligible for this emergency housing facility which offers case management for life-skills training, health education, permanent housing assessment, and referrals to needed other services. Full-time employees (working 30 or more hours a week) are eligible for a benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and three years’ experience supervising staff is required.
Four years of experience overseeing a program may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
A minimum of three years’ experience in the human services field is required.

Computer Skills to successfully perform job duties and responsibilities
Requires CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, re-certification as necessary and T.B. testing annually.
A valid California driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and the ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines are required.
Lift and move up to 20 pounds
Stand, walk and sit frequently
Bend and stoop occasionally

Nice To Haves

Specific experience working with issues and challenges unique to the HIV positive population, homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, mental health and persons with disabilities is preferred.
Specific knowledge and experience with Twelve Step philosophy, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics is preferred.
Must be able to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the development and management of all financial and contractual aspects of the program services.
Responsible for the management of all areas of daily operations and activities of the program services in compliance with company policies.
Responsible for distribution and monitoring of staff’s workloads to achieve established objectives of the department.
Responsible for training, development and motivation of staff.
Responsible for self-development.
Responsible for the dissemination of information to staff and senior management on new developments and the status of activities as it applies to the overall company operations.
