About The Position

Within this role as Program Manager, Tanzania – you will guide the design and implementation of technical assistance support project grants to the private sector under the Growing Together program in Tanzania, as well as networking the businesses to relevant stakeholders. Further, responsible for managing the utilisation of technical assistance grants provided to the private sector in Tanzania and the day-to-day management of the relationships between IDH, and senior leadership of the companies supported by the program, as well as key stakeholders in the sector.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or bachelor's degree with considerable leadership experience) preferably in agriculture, food industry, business, or economics (with experience in the food sector)
  • At least 7-10 years' experience is required in the agriculture and food sector, preferably in the private sector. Experience in cereals, pulses, and oil crops is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in business models, food supply chains, and financial models of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the agricultural sector of the country.
  • A strong and extensive industry network comprising of private sector, investment and banking, government, sector associations, and civil society organizations in the food system of the country.
  • Having a good understanding of a country's social, political, and cultural norms, as well as experience working across cultures within the country.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills in building networks with senior leadership and farmers alike and with experience in coaching SMEs and farmer organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and at least one other national language of the country

Responsibilities

  • Selection of leading companies (large, medium, and small) and sector platforms for partnership with IDH in projects to deliver the objectives of the Growing Together program in Tanzania.
  • Innovative projects designed with companies and sector platforms that drive systemic changes in business practices and sector governance for increased food and nutrition security.
  • Sector mapping and diagnostic assessments for companies and other stakeholders in the value chains that inform project steering.
  • Improved capacity of SMEs and farmer organizations to operate efficient supply chains that meet the needs of organized end markets.
  • Convened dialogues at the value chain and sector level to change business practices, professionalize SMEs and improve coordination.
  • Timely and diligent execution of projects through annual work plans, monitoring, reporting, and convening learning events.
