The Program Manager for UMCOR Disaster Response leads and supports disaster response initiatives within the United Methodist Church and its partners. The role ensures effective deployment of resources across disaster relief, recovery, and preparedness phases, while fostering coordination, communication, and impact with national and global partners.

  • Oversee disaster response programs through the full grant cycle: proposal development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Provide grant management support during project and proposal development, in consultation with conference disaster response coordinators, UMC stakeholders and other partners.
  • Accompany partners, discuss issues, provide guidance, linkages and referrals.
  • Conduct site visits in collaboration with UMCOR Disaster Response Director, to strengthen relationships, provide programmatic guidance and to validate programming.
  • Deliver technical support across all disaster cycle phases, assessing risks, assets, and capacity of partners and offering recommendations accordingly.
  • Develop and implement training, tools, and resources for UMC stakeholders and community connections.
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives with partners and mission engagement teams.
  • Facilitate clear and timely communication on response activities, priorities, trends, and outcomes. Develop and distribute information products such as situation reports, summaries, and briefings.
  • Communicate timely updates on disaster response activities, priorities, and emerging trends across the unit, organization, and the broader UMCOR/UMC network.
  • Produce reports, summaries, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track disaster management trends and ensure compliance with regulations, including jurisdictional regulations, programming standards and innovations.
  • Provide insight and guidance for internal systems development and process improvement in collaboration with other units within the agency.
  • Attends and reports in relevant coordination forums.
  • Bachelor's degree required or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in disaster readiness/response programming with humanitarian or governmental organizations; experience in grant-writing or project management preferred
  • Global, intercultural, and interfaith professional experiences from working in various church structures and diverse faith constituencies.
  • Experienced in disaster management and humanitarian programming.
  • Skilled in grant management and capacity building.
  • Strong communicator and relationship builder.
  • Comfortable working within faith-based organizational structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate training in disaster response.
