About The Position

The Program Manager, Director - US Business Transformation is a strategic leadership role responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the execution of large and complex strategic initiatives within the US Business Transformation team, focused on Payments, Cash Management and Transaction Banking. Reporting to the Sr Director, US Business Transformation, this role combines program management expertise, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership to ensure that strategic priorities are translated into executable programs, delivered on time and within budget, while driving measurable business value across RBC US and Canada. The role will partner closely with business leadership, technology partners, risk, and finance to establish program governance frameworks, manage multi-workstream initiatives, and ensure alignment between program deliverables and US strategy. This is a key strategic role that will impact how RBC executes its US strategic objective.

Requirements

  • Experience in a Cash Management/ Transaction Banking industry or complex enterprise environment required. Cash Management/ Transaction Banking experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10-15 years in program management, strategic initiative management, or related senior leadership roles, with at least 5 years managing large, complex, multi-workstream programs in Cash Management and financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide strategic initiatives with complex organizational, process, technology, and regulatory components across multiple business units.
  • Experience in executive-level stakeholder management and influencing program leadership.
  • Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency and trust across the team
  • Not afraid to “roll up the sleeves” and seeks to go outside comfort zone to learn – pushes the team to do the same
  • Strategic thinking and strong business acumen specific to financial services operations and strategy.
  • Exceptional program management expertise, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource management, and performance tracking.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work in complex, ambiguous environments and manage competing priorities and stakeholder interests.
  • Degree in Business or related discipline and/or MBA
  • Professional certifications (PMP, Agile, or equivalent program management certification) valued.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large, complex strategic initiatives with multiple workstreams through the full program lifecycle, from initiation through implementation, delivery, and launch.
  • Work with business and technology leadership to ensure programs successfully deliver against strategic business outcomes.
  • Define program scope, sequencing, and interdependencies across workstreams. Make program-level trade-off decisions managing scope, timeline, budget, and resource constraints in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Develop comprehensive, integrated baseline program plans that outline workstreams, activities, timelines, resource requirements, and budget allocations. Define clear milestones, dependencies, and critical path activities. Coordinate inter-workstream dependencies and identify risks to the program plan and develop mitigation plans in partnership with impacted stakeholders.
  • Establish appropriate governance structures and decision-making frameworks for assigned programs, including steering committees, working groups, and review gates. Define roles, responsibilities, and communication plan to ensure clear accountability and effective decision-making. Establish program review cadences and reporting. Escalate issues and conflicts to program leadership when needed.
  • Track program performance against integrated baseline plans, monitoring schedule adherence, budget utilization, and scope management. Establish performance metrics and dashboards that provide visibility into program health and progress. Identify issues, and risks early and develop mitigation or resolution plan. Raise and track issues systematically, removing barriers and resolving conflicts at the appropriate level. Escalate unresolved issues and risks that could impact program delivery to the program leadership.
  • Manage program communications across all stakeholder groups. Develop and execute stakeholder engagement that keep stakeholders informed, aligned, and engaged throughout the program lifecycle. Prepare executive status reports, board-level presentations, and stakeholder updates that communicate program progress, risks, and milestones clearly. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between competing stakeholder interests.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, technology partners, and key stakeholders to enable program success.
  • Manage program budgets, track expenditures against approved budgets, and identify variances. Work with finance and business partners to secure necessary funding and justify program investments.
  • Oversee program and project delivery assurance, ensuring that workstreams follow appropriate methodologies, governance, and quality standards. Conduct post-implementation reviews to assess whether programs delivered intended business outcomes and strategic benefits. Identify lessons learned from program execution and capture improvements for future initiatives. Lead IT governance interfaces and ensure alignment with RBC internal audit and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure program deliverables remain aligned with evolving business strategy and strategic priorities. Monitor other strategic priorities that could impact program direction. Track business value realization post-implementation and identify gaps between expected and actual outcomes. Support continuous improvement activities to refine programs and capture intended benefits.
