About The Position

The Husky Union Building has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager (Deaf and Disability Cultural Center) to join their team. About this Opportunity Reporting to the Associate Director for Student Activities, the Program Manager for the Deaf and Disability Cultural Center (D Center) is responsible for the day-to-day operations and overall direction of the Center to support students who are d/Deaf, Disabled, or a community ally in maximizing their Husky Experience. The Program Manager will create an affirming and supportive environment through maintaining the Center’s amenities, hosting community programming, and creating educational and awareness initiatives. The Program Manager will build relationships and connections with d/Deaf and Disabled community members, student organizations, and campus departments to advance the mission, vision, and values of the D Center and Husky Union Building.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies, Psychology, or related subject.
2 years’ experience in program management or support roles serving d/Deaf and Disabled individuals or communities.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain positive working relationships and ensure collaboration and cooperation among units within the HUB and external departments.
Ability to use independent judgement and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with diverse individuals.
Strong commitment to advancing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.

Nice To Haves

Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), Accessibility Practices Certificate (APC), Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), or other related certificates.
Fluency in American Sign Language.
Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal and state laws relating to d/Deaf and Disability access and rights.
Experience as a professional staff member in Higher Education.
Experience supervising student employees.
Familiarity with University of Washington policy, procedure, and systems.

Responsibilities

Oversee all operations, programs, and services within the D Center.
Support department strategic initiatives, programs, and services to meet the needs of students served by the D Center.
Hire, supervise, train, schedule, evaluate, and direct the work of 3 student employees to operate the Center, conduct outreach efforts, and host events.
Prepare, monitor, and manage annual operating and programming budgets.
Continually assess the effectiveness and outcomes of the D Center’s programs, initiatives, and operations.
Recommend and implement changes to meet the emerging needs of students.
Collect data and develop and publicize reports.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policies, rules, and regulations in the operation of the Center and its programs.
Maintain records in accordance with University Policies and Procedures.
Participate in department and unit staff meetings, committees, and other working groups.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Create, plan, execute, evaluate, and assess programs, activations, and services focused on d/Deaf and Disability causes, communities, and culture.
Initiate, coordinate, support, and/or sponsor collaborative programs with other University departments, student government entities, and/or Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).
Support the development of trainings, tools, references, guides, modules, courses, and other educational materials related to d/Deaf and Disability awareness, accessibility, and universal access design.
Cultivate and sustain collaborative partnerships with University departments (e.g. Disability Resources for Students, Disability Services Office, Civil Rights Compliance Office – ADA Coordinator) and student government entities (ASUW Students with Disabilities Commission, GPSS Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
Oversee the curation and distribution of newsletters, advertisements, flyers, posters, brochures, stickers, and other promotional materials to enhance awareness of the D Center and its operations and programs.
Participate on University committees and other working groups promoting awareness of d/Deaf, Disability, and other related causes.
From time-to-time, advise the department, student government entities, and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on d/Deaf and Disability causes.
