About The Position

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Manager to support Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded workforce development and capacity-building initiatives within the Center for Public Health Leadership (CPHL). This position plays a key role in implementing NACDD’s National Organization for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion cooperative agreement, with a focus on strengthening leadership capacity, professional development, and peer learning across the public health workforce in states, territories, and freely associated states. Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Program Manager will provide day-to-day program and project management across the CPHL portfolio. The Program Manager will coordinate planning, implementation, tracking, and reporting for complex, multi-component initiatives that strengthen organizational capacity and leadership across the public health workforce, spanning training programs, certificate and cohort-based learning, learning management system–based offerings, in-person and virtual convenings, and related surveys and assessments. The role requires close collaboration with NACDD leadership, internal teams, subject matter experts, contractors, academic partners, and CDC. This position is well-suited for an individual who brings strong program management skills, experience working with federally funded public health initiatives, and the ability to manage interconnected activities that support leadership development, workforce readiness, and organizational capacity in chronic disease prevention and health promotion. This position is grant-funded, with funding secured through September 29, 2026. Continuation of the position beyond this date is contingent upon the availability of continued grant funding, which the organization is committed to actively pursuing. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, health policy, or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years to seven (7) years of relevant of relevant professional experience in planning, implementing, and managing public health programs or initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience (minimum three [3] years) supporting organizational capacity-building and/or workforce development initiatives within public health or a closely related field
  • Experience working with federally funded programs or cooperative agreements, including preparation of required reports
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality deliverables
  • Experience coordinating and managing meetings, convenings, or learning activities both virtually and in person
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts, contractors, and external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information, identify challenges, and contribute to practical solutions in dynamic or evolving environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information, prepare summaries or reports, and communicate clearly with varied audiences
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional credibility and diplomacy; understands the importance of keeping current industry or subject matter expertise
  • Resilient, flexible, and innovative
  • High proficiency with common office and collaboration technologies (e.g., Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom or Teams, and project management or tracking tools such as Smartsheet)
  • Ability to work independently while also incorporating feedback and direction from supervisors and collaborators

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Health Administration, or related field
  • Prior experience working in an association, nonprofit, or similar organization, particularly a member-based organization serving state or territorial public health practitioners
  • Prior professional experience working in a state, county, or local health department.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning, implementation, tracking, and reporting for CPHL initiatives
  • Develop and manage project timelines and deliverables
  • Ensure alignment with approved workplans and cooperative agreement requirements
  • Lead internal and CDC reporting processes
  • Support implementation of organizational capacity assessments and workforce development activities
  • Coordinate development and delivery of curriculum, training plans, certificate programs, and cohort-based learning
  • Use data and evaluation findings to inform program refinement and continuous improvement
  • Plan and support in-person and virtual convenings, orientations, and cohort-based learning experiences
  • Develop agendas, facilitation materials, and meeting summaries
  • Foster collaboration across NACDD programs and external partners
  • Support contract and SOW management to ensure deliverables are met
  • Collaborate with evaluators on performance measurement activities and reporting
  • Identify opportunities for cross-portfolio coordination and shared infrastructure
  • Perform other duties, as assigned or necessary, to achieve CPHL and NACDD’s goals and objectives.
