About The Position

This is an exciting role at the intersection of applied Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced cloud-based GPU/HPC infrastructure, and community-driven program development for research and higher education institutions. It requires more than just program management or technical skills; it requires someone with deep technical knowledge who enjoys collaborating with research, higher education, government, industry, and other AI leaders. The Program Manager for AI & Emerging Technologies is a member of Internet2’s NET+ Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Services team. This role manages a portfolio of AI and emerging technology (ET) services, stewards industry collaborations, and serves as a strategic advisor to the research and education (R&E) community on AI & ET strategy, adoption, and responsible innovation. The role supports nearly 600 research and higher education institutions in managing risk and maximizing opportunities when adopting commercially offered technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5+ years in AI, cloud infrastructure, research computing, or technology program leadership, with technical credibility and ecosystem engagement.
  • Experience in a technical or customer-facing role (solutions engineering, cloud advisory, technical program leadership, or product strategy).
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 20% for major community events and member site visits.

  • Experience engaging with research universities or research computing organizations.
  • Advanced Digital Fluency: Mastery of collaboration and productivity tools—specifically Google Workspace.
  • AI-Augmented Workflow: Demonstrated use of Generative AI/LLMs and CRM tools to enhance daily productivity.
  • Portfolio & Evaluation Experience: Running multi-stakeholder evaluations and managing a diverse service portfolio.
  • Operational Agility & Initiative: Ability to thrive in high-velocity environments as a self-directed leader who syncs tightly with teammates
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to translate technical, financial, and contractual concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Proven collaboration across technical, business, and procurement/contracting/legal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of GPU-based cloud workloads, HPC environments, and the emerging quantum landscape.
  • Background in technology marketing or community advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a portfolio of 3–5 NET+ services. Act as primary point of contact across generative AI platforms, model-as-a-service (MaaS), orchestration gateways, and cloud-based GPU/HPC infrastructure.
  • Lead the NET+ Generative AI Community of Practice.
  • Translate complex technical and economic concepts into practical guidance for CIOs, research computing leadership, procurement/legal, and faculty innovators.
  • Convert demand signals + supply capabilities into forward‑looking portfolio direction and recommendations for NET+ service development and evolution.
  • Develop presentations, briefings, and thought leadership that articulate where the field is going and how institutions can adopt responsibly and effectively.
  • Manage vendor relationships at scale, connecting product roadmaps to community needs and constraints.
