Please note: This is a 4-month contract role This is a hybrid role that requires approximately 25% of time each month onsite, in Olympia, WA Role Overview The PMO Director will oversee program management operations for the Workers’ Compensation Systems Modernization (WCSM) Program for our public sector client. This program is focused on transforming L&I’s existing mainframe-centric systems into a modern, cloud-first model, enabling more efficient operations, enhanced capabilities, and improved scalability for future business needs. The PMO Director will work closely with the WCSM Program Director to evaluate strategic objectives, define program structure, and make recommendations to ensure alignment with modernization goals. This role will establish, lead, and sustain the Program Management Office (PMO), ensuring that its frameworks, tools, and governance processes adhere to industry best practices. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing large-scale IT and business transformation initiatives in public sector settings and demonstrates strong governance, communication, and leadership capabilities. As a PMO Director for AG Consulting Partners, a typical day might include the following: Collaborating with the WCSM Program Director to assess progress toward program objectives and recommend adjustments to structure or approach. Overseeing PMO operations, ensuring consistent application of project management standards, methodologies, and tools across all active projects. Reviewing and refining integrated project schedules using Microsoft Project to track milestones, dependencies, and deliverables. Managing budget forecasts, risk registers, and change management plans to ensure projects stay within defined scope and cost parameters. Leading PMs, vendors, and stakeholders through program governance meetings, steering committees, and executive updates. Working with external modernization vendors to monitor performance, resolve issues, and maintain compliance with contract terms. Facilitating regular communications with key stakeholders — including sponsors, legislative partners, and agency leadership — to ensure transparency and alignment. Providing strategic oversight and guidance to project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability throughout the modernization lifecycle.
