About The Position

The Program Leader—Nature facilitates and leads dynamic camp activities based on their activity focus area, nature and challenge course programming, while also supporting the general camp environment and programs. The Program Leader—Nature works cooperatively with the Head Program Leader to design, plan, and implement programming for Camp Accomplish and Access Adventures Center-based retreats. The Program Leader—Nature leads challenge course activities and other outdoor activities focused on the environment.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
Demonstrated ability in providing support in a respectful manner to participants of all abilities.
Certification and/or demonstrated competency in high and low challenge course programming and basic environmental education.
This position requires the employee to live onsite at the Recreation Center for the duration of the summer.

Nice To Haves

BA/BS in special education, therapeutic recreation, psychology or related field (achieved or in progress) and previous experience working in an inclusive camp environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead activities for the activity focus area (nature) that are creative, dynamic, fun and safe for participants of all ages and abilities.
Facilitates the upkeep of assigned activity area, ensuring that all areas are safe and well maintained.
Develop and write lesson plans with clear goals that are clearly tied to the activity focus area and are intentional in purpose.
Works closely with staff to adapt activities so each participant is able to participate.
Works with the Head Program Leader to develop new activities and programs that are inclusive and therapeutic for participants of all abilities.
Assist the Head Program Leader and other staff in the coordination and facilitation of evening programs, theme days and special events.
Lives with assigned cabin group and staff in a respectful manner, participating in building a positive and safe camp living environment.
Works to promote safety, independence, exploration and integration into the community.
Demonstrates positive behavioral management techniques and communicates with individuals in a person-centered, age appropriate manner.
Completes assigned notes, daily logs and other documentation thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
Facilitates participant’s self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust.
Develops free time activities that promote team work, positive interaction and personal growth.
Attends and actively participate in required training, team meetings and supervision meetings.
Adhere to and further the mission of Melwood by creating a supportive environment for participants and staff.
Provide excellent internal and external customer service
