About The Position

Oversee the Peer Health Educator Program within the Wellness Services department; hire, train, develop and strategically deploy a team of approximately 10 Peer Health Educators (PHEs) to proactively encourage healthy student lifestyles. Oversee the cyclical hiring of Graduate Assistants (GAs) and supervise two GAs who serves as the first line of supervision for PHEs. Work strategically with the Wellness team (3 other FTE and the Director) to leverage peer to peer education as a health promoting campus strategy. Collect and analyze data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. Level Scope: Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Essential Functions: Student Hiring, Training, and Supervision (50%) Execute the hiring of all student staff (approx. 10 Peer Health Educators and 2 Graduate Assistants) Coordinate the seasonal training of all student staff each fall and spring Directly supervise two Graduate Assistant Lead student development opportunities for all student staff that focus on the growth and development of future employability. Health Promotion Strategy (30%) Work with student staff to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles; identify and rely on subject matter experts within and beyond the campus community to guide efforts. Work closely with the Wellness Team to devise strategies to respond to current data and proactively support student wellbeing. Contribute to the collection and analysis of data to identify community needs Department Leadership and Support (10%) Provide departmental and divisional support by participating in various hiring committees and Student Affairs events and initiatives. Attend professional conferences, workshops, and/or seminars to continue professional growth and development. Serve on cross-campus committees as appropriate, with attention to efforts that impact all students. Assist other staff members with special events and programs as requested by the supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. (10%)

Requirements

  • The ability to manage timelines and details not only for themselves but for the student they oversee
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 2 years’ experience

Nice To Haves
