About The Position

Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. We hire people that are skilled and passionate to meet our mission to end homelessness through outcome-based strategies which support personal and community transformation. Karibu Center: Karibu Stabilization for Treatment Preparation (Karibu STP) is a culturally specific transitional housing program that provides services for Black/African American men (ages 18+) who have behavioral health needs and are involved in, or at risk of involvement with, the criminal justice system. Karibu's facility offers transitional, dorm-style housing with 15 beds. During their stay, for up to 9 months, participants engage in programming, while working on securing next-step housing. Karibu is co-located at this facility with Imani Center. This person will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of lobbies, hallways, offices, bathrooms, and exterior common areas through tasks like sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, polishing floors, cleaning carpets, and pressure washing as needed. You’ll also help keep buildings healthy by identifying and reporting pest activity and ensuring all work areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly manner—making a visible impact every day for residents, staff, and visitors. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm Location: Karibu Center, 2020 SE Powell Blvd., Portland, OR 97202 Compensation: Starting at $18.30/hr, could increase depending on experience and internal equity

Requirements

  • Must have at least six months' experience in interior and exterior janitorial cleaning.
  • Must have at least three months' experience identifying bed bugs, rodents and other insects.
  • Must have experience in floor care - stripping, waxing, buffing and carpet cleaning.
  • Must be able to use a ladder safely in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  • Must be trained or be able to be trained in bio-hazard cleanup.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background check. Certain convictions may disqualify you for this position according to the program restrictions and contractual obligations.
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance or alcohol.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform duties.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects and climb stairs with no or reasonable accommodation.
  • May be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. If required, cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern.

Responsibilities

  • Clean lobbies, hallways, offices, bathrooms, exterior grounds and common areas.
  • Clean windows, floors, countertops, elevators, appliances, fixtures, and other building components.
  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, disinfecting and polishing.
  • Clean sidewalks and other outside public areas as directed.
  • Polishing floors, cleaning carpets and pressure washing exterior surfaces.
  • Have the ability to identify pests such as roaches, bed bugs, ants and rodents.
  • Report pest issues to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain work areas in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Order and receive supplies and equipment.
  • Attending all required meetings and training.
  • Adhere to safety procedures.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
  • Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners’ and outside providers’ patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access. This includes immediate reporting of any PHI breach of CCC or outside provider health records to the CCC Legal and Quality departments, as well as to the program administrator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
