About The Position

Volunteers of America is a non-profit human services organization committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. VOALA provides a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. The Program Finance Manager oversees accounting team or teams with oversight of one or more Accounting Supervisors. This role provides experienced-based leadership and knowledge to accountants at all levels including development and support of Accounting Supervisors. They develop strategies for growth and training of accounting teams and develop team structures based on organizational need. The manager ensures knowledge and adherence to Grant and Funder requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience (4 years)
  • 10 years of general accounting experience
  • 5 years of experience in grant management and federal grant reporting
  • 5 years of experience working in public or large publicly funded non-profit organization

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and oversees accounting teams, each of which handles multiple programs
  • Ensures supervisors and accountants adhere to grant and funder requirements
  • Ensure adherence to auditing standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Works with Program Directors on strategies and implementation of various programs, including problem solving for overarching accounting and finance issues
  • Ensures accounting controls processes are established and followed
  • Oversees Accountant development of budgets and financial statements
  • Work with Accounting Supervisors to ensure effective program implementation and clean funder audits
  • Direct analysis of financial information as needed to fulfill duties
  • Services for this position must be provided on-site
  • Oversight of accounting team(s)
  • Develop strategies for implementation of programs in collaboration with program managers and directors
  • Identify systemic challenges and create solutions and strategies for improvement
  • Report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities as a Mandated Reporter
