About The Position

The Program Director of Northeastern Music Programs is responsible for designing, developing, administering, and evaluating all education programs for Northeastern Music Programs (NMP), including the school and youth ensembles. This role will plan and manage all educational activities, such as the supervision of all staff involved in delivering any aspect of the programs. The Program Director will also represent the NMP to education institutions to promote constructive working partnerships in the community. The Program Director plays a key leadership role in shaping the educational vision of Northeastern Music Programs. This role has significant influence over curriculum design, faculty development, program growth, and community partnerships, directly impacting student outcomes and organizational reputation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in music education.
  • 8+ years proven experience in instrumental music education.
  • Budgeting, bookkeeping, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Key to increasing productivity and effectiveness with both superiors and subordinates.
  • Collaborative and mission-driven leadership: Demonstrates commitment to the mission and values of Northeastern Music Programs; fosters a positive, inclusive, and respectful culture among teaching staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Time management: Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks to ensure that projects are completed by deadlines, and streamline processes to maximize productivity.

  • Decision-making: Ability to weigh the costs and benefits of various options and determine the best course of action to achieve company goals
  • Problem-solving: Ability to analyze past and current performance and recommend objectives to improve productivity and profitability
  • Technological proficiency: Ability to confidently use and manage learning platforms, scheduling systems, data collection tools, survey software, and communication technology; uses data and technology to improve program quality, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Policies and procedures: Knowledge and administration of organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or Doctorate degree preferred.
  • General music or administrative/supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in strategic planning with the NMP Vice President and School Directors.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the NMP Vice President.
  • Plan, implement, and assess all aspects of the Northeastern Music Programs, including concerts/recitals, lecture-demonstrations, family concerts, school concerts, honor band, and other related programs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with all area school music program leaders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve parent issues, questions, and concerns.
  • Maintain both student and faculty handbooks.
  • Establish and maintain an annual NMP event calendar.
  • Issue, review, and analyze year-end parent surveys.
  • Recruit and supervise staff of approximately 25 teachers across a 4-state region.
  • Set up regular school visits to evaluate teacher performance and provide additional coaching and support; arrange monitoring and measurement evaluation related to school visits.
  • Coordinate master classes and training sessions for professional development.
  • Maintain an active list of substitute teachers and provide coverage in schools when necessary.
