About The Position

Queens Community House (QCH) seeks a dynamic and experienced Program Director to lead the Pomonok Older Adult Center, a neighborhood-based center located within the Pomonok Houses Community Center in Flushing, Queens. The Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Older Adult Center. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, participant-centered programming while maintaining compliance with NYC Aging, Department of Health, and other funding and regulatory requirements. The Program Director oversees center staff and volunteers, manages budgets and program deliverables, and develops a robust menu of programs that promote health, independence, and social well-being among older adult participants. The Program Director will uphold all agency-wide policies, protocols, and practices and actively identify opportunities for collaboration across QCH programs and with external partners. This role plays a critical part in ensuring program quality and alignment with QCH’s mission, vision, and purpose—particularly the goals of the Pomonok Initiative.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Public Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of program management experience, preferably in older adult services or community-based nonprofits.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing program budgets.
  • Knowledge of NYC aging services and DFTA-funded programs strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic data tracking systems.
  • Commitment to QCH’s collaborative, community-driven approach.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Pomonok Older Adult Center, ensuring consistent, innovative, and high-quality services.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate culturally responsive recreational, educational, wellness, and social programs.
  • Ensure compliance with NYC Aging, Department of Health, QCH policies, and all funding and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor participation, attendance, and outcomes to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Align program goals with the Pomonok Initiative and contribute to initiative-wide outcomes and community impact.
  • Participate in cross-program coordination to connect older adults with relevant QCH and partner services.
  • Supervise, coach, and support center staff, including the Assistant Director, Program Coordinator, Cook, Assistant Cook, Kitchen Aide, and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, trainings, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive team culture.
  • Engage staff in planning and outreach efforts to ensure shared goals and effective communication.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of reports and documentation to funders, regulatory entities, and internal QCH teams.
  • Support data collection and reporting related to Pomonok Initiative strategic goals.
  • Review and approve timesheets, invoices, and program-related expenses.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, service providers, and city agencies.
  • Represent QCH and the Pomonok Older Adult Center at meetings, events, and community forums.
  • Promote center programs to increase participation and community visibility.
  • Actively participate in Pomonok Initiative outreach and partnership-building efforts.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Address participant concerns and feedback promptly and respectfully.
  • Oversee compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure participants have access to the full range of Pomonok Initiative resources, including referrals and warm hand-offs.
