About The Position

The Program Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for the strategic planning, managing, directing, coordinating and controlling the overall operations of behavioral health program and services. Provides leadership to ensure attainment of strategic objectives and the delivery of quality, economical health care services and other related lines of business. Coordinates and enforces program-wide policies and procedures that support the accomplishment of the behavioral health services’ aims, objectives, and programs. Directs the short- range and long-range planning functions that develop goals, objectives, and strategic plans to ensure quality services and a financially sound program. Participates and manages the budget for the programs, demonstrates awareness of monthly expected budgets, allocates funds within the budget as directed, and ensures that the programs operate within the budget. Provides supervision to the leaders and staff in the designated programs. Program Directors, who are registered nurses, will also serve as the Director of Psychiatric Nursing for the unit. Program Directors, who are Licensed Mastered Social Workers, will also serve as the Director of Social/Clinical Services on the unit.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of The Joint Commission, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of general budgeting, accounting, and management skills.
  • Knowledge of cost reporting, profit and loss and budget compliance.
  • Ability to work well with management teams and employees in a multi-site environment.
  • Ability to spend a limited amount of time on travel.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Licensure in State of Practice if applicable.
  • Licensed Master’s level clinician required.
  • 3 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in the caring for behavioral health patients preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains overall responsibility for all aspects of operations.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, supervision when required, and evaluation of all unit staff.
  • Participates in providing care as needed and ensures services are carried out and documented appropriately.
  • Participate in hospital/ unit and/or administrator on call schedule, accordingly.
  • Assures that all policies established by the Governing Body are implemented and followed appropriately.
  • Assists in the strategic planning as appropriate.
  • Participates in facility growth and outreach department in the marketing for programs, with input and direction from divisional vice president (BH).
  • Provides input on annual budget for program in conjunction with divisional team showing the expected revenue and expenditures as required by the board.
  • Oversees unit-based activities related to behavioral health including administration of care, productivity, and compliance with furnished policies and procedures.
  • Supports facility-based initiatives and functions related to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Consults with leaders on a regular basis; evaluates leadership competence and makes changes as necessary; keeps lines of communication open; works with hospital leadership to foster high employee morale and a positive work environment for employees.
  • Ensures maintenance of physical properties in good and safe state of repair and operation.
  • Presents to divisional team and hospital leadership periodic reports reflecting the services and financial activities of the behavioral health unit. and such special reports as may be required by the boards.
  • Attends all meetings of the hospital board and committees as directed by the CNO and CEO.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies by supporting facility-based compliance initiatives, monitoring the delivery of health care for the behavioral health unit, and recording and reporting data related to compliance and performance measures when indicated.
  • Oversees change implementation initiatives provided by the facility and divisional management team when indicated.
  • Assists the facility with sustaining program accreditation and licensing by implementing, monitoring, and reporting performance measures related to quality initiatives provided by the facility and division
  • Reviews plans for the achievement of programs’ specific objectives and established goals, and periodically reviews, evaluates and updates such plans. Said plans shall at all times reflect the hospital’s mission statement.
  • Serves as a liaison between critical stakeholders including facility leadership, the division management team, and staff on the behavioral health unit. As a liaison, will enable the division management team to attend and support external functions by coordinating and communicating between all the stakeholders.
  • In instances where the Program Director is other than a registered nurse, the nursing department will have a designated Nurse manager/Leader to serve as the Director of Psychiatric Nursing for the unit.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
