About The Position

The Program Coordinator will contribute to the research mission of IIHR–Hydroscience and Engineering by supporting the institute’s nationally-recognized hydrologic programs. This includes implementing programmatic activities for the Center for Hydrologic Development (CHD), the Iowa Flood Center, Iowa Geological Survey, and serving as an effective and knowledgeable liaison between IIHR researchers and external stakeholders (agency personnel, policymakers, community leaders, and the public). This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization. Requirements

Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental communication, global studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience implementing professional communications strategies that include web, social, and print media for a wide variety of audiences.
Demonstrated experience with program coordination.
Strong communications skills; effective oral and written communication of scientific concepts (both technical and non-technical) to a wide variety of audiences.
A valid driver’s license and continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19)

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree in science discipline, geography, environmental engineering, education, strategic communication, or related field.
At least six months of work experience in an environmental discipline that encompasses watersheds, rivers, floods, etc.
At least six months of experience delivering environmental programs or public outreach events.
Demonstrated experience developing and writing web content, press releases, and/or other environmentally related materials for governmental, private, and public consumption.
Experience working in collaboration with state and/or federal agencies and policymakers to address water related issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state agriculture, soil, and water resource policies and standards.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and administer the daily operational activities associated with programs that are supported by IIHR including educational and outreach activities.
Analyze program data, develop reports, and oversee activities including ongoing coordination of events.
Monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements.
Advise Program Directors on budgetary needs or discrepancies.
Coordinate training and outreach events scheduling.
Present information about water-related projects and programmatic activities to stakeholders.
Assist in the overall growth and implementation of programs and services.
Propose and implement communication strategies and develop content that best conveys programmatic messages.
Assist in the implementation of strategic initiatives in support of hydrologic programs to maximize effectiveness.
Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of watershed management, water resources, environmental science-related, and specialized hydrologic education and outreach programs for a wide variety of audiences, including, but not limited to, K-12, post-secondary students, and the public.
Serve as liaison with partners for matters related to IIHR programs and services.
Provide support for events or functions.
Gather and provide information using available resources.
Respond to customer questions, comments, and concerns.
Coordinate to ensure applicable compliance standards are met.
May recommend changes in policies and procedures to meet hydrologic program standards.
Assure applicable hydrologic program standards are followed.
Evaluate program/services.
Analyze data for quality improvement initiatives.
Assess program effectiveness; assist in the development of quality improvement tools.
Implement initiatives to maximize program impact and efficiency related to processes.
Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling for graduate and undergraduate students to assure outcomes are achieved.
Implement policies and practices of a culture that supports staff engagement in the workplace.
