About The Position

Assists Program Director with coordinating funeral assistance for Tribal member and Community families. This position will help families access the resources available through Tribal programs that assist with funeral related expenses for Tribal Members and community members. This position requires availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have proficient experience and knowledge with computers (i.e. Word for Windows, Excel, etc.).
  • Must have experience with computer programs used to create DVD’s.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to multitask, demonstrate strong organizational skills, self-motivation, dependability and flexibility.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity and compassion to individuals and families experiencing stressful situations.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. to assist families in crisis.
  • Must be available to take calls any time of day.
  • If duties require the employee to drive a Tribal vehicle, must have a valid and unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License. Driver’s License must not contain any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an employee from driving a GSA vehicle. Must comply with Tribal Vehicle Use Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting Director with all aspects of program services.
  • Tabulates and posts data in recording files; enters information into statistical reports.
  • Composes routine correspondence and memos.
  • Creates and maintains office records and file systems.
  • Prepares check requests, purchase orders, invoices within Microix. Follows-up to ensure timely processing. Orders office supplies.
  • Assists supervisor with coordinating requests for funeral assistance. Verifies familial relationship, which may include proof of kinship from Enrollment. Requests birth certificates, if needed.
  • Coordinates travel needs with Tribal Member, caregiver and the Travel department.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of blankets and caskets for funeral needs.
  • May need to perform other duties and responsibilities such as shop for food, coordinate with the cemetery, travel arrangements for family, etc. at the supervisor’s request.
  • Responsible for creating poster boards for families and other departments. Manages and maintains the poster board printing machine. Contacts outside agency for service and supplies needs. Trains new staff members on utilizing the machine.
  • Schedules meetings and appointments for department staff members.
  • Meets with families and funeral homes, provides assistance with planning. Ensures families are informed of available resources and options for funeral planning. May attend family meetings at family member’s homes. May assist Members out of state with planning.
  • Requests photos from families, and Creates DVDs.
  • Maintain department vehicles, gets vehicles serviced as needed, and keeps accurate vehicle maintenance records.
  • Transports the deceased from the Medical examiner, funeral homes & cemetery.
  • Assists in dressing the deceased and does slight makeup.
  • Arranges motorcycle drivers for funeral procession if requested by family. Ensures motorcycles are ready for day of procession.
  • Helps train new employees.
  • Assist the Director with research and development of Tribal Funeral Home.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
