About The Position

Support new first-year and transfer students in navigating their transition into and throughout their first year at Ithaca College by fostering inclusive holistic growth, community membership, school pride, and a sense of belonging. This position leads the outreach process and communication strategy for new students as they complete their New Student Checklist prior to attending New Student Orientation in August and January. The Program Coordinator supervises the Orientation student employees including recruitment, selection and training. This position serves as a liaison to other college departments in the creation of these critical support and transition programs for new students and their families/supporters. This position reports to the Associate Director of New Student & Transition Programs (NSTP), a department within the College’s Student Affairs and Campus Life division.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and have prior collegiate student leadership experience.
  • demonstrated ability to design, implement (including budget and logistics), and assess a variety of events (educational, social, large-scale)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in higher education or a master’s degree in college student personnel or a related degree are strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in Orientation or supervising staff preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the coordination and management of the New Student Checklist, and lead the outreach and communication strategy for incoming students via social media, SMS campaigns, email newsletters, and direct student outreach.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, support the development and coordination of Ithaca College's Fall and Spring Orientation programs for new first-year and transfer students to include: 1. (a) coordinating IC’s New Student Checklist, 2. (b) leading NSTP and interdepartmental project teams, 3. (c) collaborating with faculty and staff to provide high quality, intersectional programming and onboarding resources, and 4. (d) assessing the impact of departmental programs and initiatives and adjusting as needed based on findings.
  • Directly supervise and oversee the recruitment, selection, and training of a diverse orientation team, including approximately 60 undergraduate student leaders (Orientation Leaders & Orientation Mentors).
  • Conduct work through a lens of maximizing equity, inclusion, and belonging for all constituents by promoting a flexible, collaborative and inclusive environment, and engaging in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  • Maintain industry standard knowledge for new student orientation programs, including the transition needs of and best practices for supporting first-year and transfer student populations.
  • In collaboration with fellow NSTP staff and campus partners, develop developmentally appropriate programs and resources for new students, mindful of the needs of our various populations.
  • Assist with the development of the NSTP and orientation websites, digital and print promotional materials, forms and surveys, summer outreach, and other publications, working in partnership with the College’s marketing and communications teams where appropriate.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of Family Weekend programming and activities, in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Represent NSTP at Admissions and other institutional events and serve as a member of campus-wide and division-wide committees or work groups (such as the Orientation Planning Committee, Mainstay Working Group, etc.) and serve as back-up chair to the Associate Director as needed.
  • Serve as the advisor for the Tau Sigma National Honor Society, an academic honor society for transfer students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
