About The Position

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the After School & Camp Program Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations and personnel of the After School Program. Coordinator will also manage Schools Out Programming and serve as a Summer Camp Assistant Director. Employee will possess a strong interpersonal and communication skills, understanding of child development and safety, and ability to manage multiple staff, activities and functions aligned with the mission of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club program policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A degree in child development, recreation management or similar field, or comparable experience in youth development.
  • Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Multi-tasking in a distracting, active-youth oriented environment.
  • Clear understanding and possession of cultural competency.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Customer Service Experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain files, records, spread sheets and data base and to make mathematical calculations using a calculator.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and issues with some interruption, pressure and changing priorities.
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks over long periods of time and the ability to remember information that has been read, studied or previously learned.
  • Ability to use knowledge and reasoning to solve problems.
  • Ability to work with children and teenagers in a Boys & Girls Club setting with frequent distractions.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to get from one location in the work site(s) to other locations inside and outside from the primary work site(s).
  • Mobility to make facility inspections.
  • Ability to reach and bend, and push/pull or lift objects up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing, using a keyboard and/or calculator.
  • Ability to see and read objects closely as in reading narrative or financial reports.
  • Ability to read from a computer monitor.
  • Ability to see objects far away as in driving.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in hearing/using a telephone or two-way radio.
  • Ability to distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech.

  • Non-profit experience as a staff member or volunteer is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop enhancements for After School Program curriculum incorporating fitness, arts, STEM, and leadership activities.
  • Create and execute program agendas for the school year aligned with community needs.
  • Plan and coordinate WBGC events such as Day for Kids, Movie Nights, and serve as lead coordinator of Birthday Parties.
  • Organize activities for school holidays and days off.
  • Recruit, train, and retain program staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality instruction and supervision.
  • Assist with supervising After School Program, Schools Out, and Camp staff; maintain accurate schedules and records.
  • Assist in staff evaluations and develop strategies for motivation and goal achievement.
  • Ensure a safe environment for members, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Serve as primary first aid provider during after school hours.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding member successes and challenges.
  • Foster a member-focused culture and model relationship-building skills.
  • Coordinate program specifics and registration details with Program Directors.
  • Support fundraising activities and special events.
  • Maintain accurate records of program participation and space usage.
  • Provide front desk supervision and leadership for ASP groups as needed.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assist Summer Camp Director with leagues and camp programs.
  • Standard hours are 12:00pm-6:00pm Monday through Thursday and Saturdays, not to exceed 35 hours per week.
