About The Position

The program coordinator (staff assistant), student success and the first year experience, assists in developing, implementing, and assessing first year initiatives. This individual works closely with the assistant dean and staff of student success and the first year experience to fulfill the goals of the office and honor the mission of the university while positively impacting the experience of first-year students. The program coordinator works with curricular, transition, and support programs and works collaboratively with a wide range of offices and academic departments. This is a twelve-month, in-person position and includes some evening and weekend commitments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One-two years of work experience at a college/university at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level
  • Experience working with college-age students in a leadership, mentoring, or coaching capacity

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the overall management of the Office of Student Success and the First Year Experience and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and family members.
  • Recruit, hire, select, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate first year mentors. Develop, manage, and facilitate training curriculum both in-person and through the university e-learning platform.
  • Work with administrative assistant in overseeing payroll processes for all student employees (graduate and undergraduate) including budget management
  • Utilize university early warning and retention software to follow up on student referrals, analyze student trends and concerns, and coordinate/monitor outreach to students.
  • Assist in developing and implementing programmatic initiatives designed to assist first-year students in their transition into and through the university. Provide support and coordination for the mentor programs throughout the year
  • Advise Alpha Lambda Delta, the first year honor society on campus including organizing member recruitment, managing organizational budget and scholarship processes, and facilitating programs and events.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with academic departments and offices in the development and implementation of initiatives/programs geared toward first-year student success.
  • Collaborate with all staff in the Office of Student Success and the First Year Experience to implement programs and services (including but not limited to the exploratory program, first-generation success center, and individual coaching programs.)
  • Assist in managing and maintaining social media outlets, first year experience websites, and internal web content including the development and scheduling of institutional deadlines and reminders.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining staff manuals and online project management and training/support systems.
  • Assist and support in managing learning community and first year seminar marketing, enrollment, and assessment
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, selecting, and training of graduate staff including practicum students. Assist in supervising general success coach graduate staff by managing specific projects related to first year experience initiatives.
  • Represent the Office of Student Success and the First Year Experience at January and Summer Orientation sessions, Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, and other relevant events.
  • Assist in managing the first year experience budget
  • Serve on various university committees and ad hoc committees as assigned
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, gender identity disability, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Serves as a positive role model and mentor for students and staff
