About The Position

The mission of the North Carolina Department of Insurance is to promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user-friendly service, courtesy, and respect. Our agency licenses insurance agents, adjusters, bail bondsmen and more, along with investigating fraud matters involving insurance consumers and any entity or individual regulated by the Department. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workday. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management. The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support for the North Carolina Firefighters’ Cancer Insurance Program within the Office of State Fire Marshal. This position assists with processing claims and verifying documentation to ensure eligible firefighters and their families receive timely and accurate benefits as provided under state law. The role supports program operations by maintaining accurate records, preparing correspondence, and assisting with the implementation of procedures in accordance with statutory requirements. The position serves as a point of contact for fire departments, firefighters, and other stakeholders to provide clear and courteous communication regarding program information and status updates. This role assists with tracking program metrics and compiling data reports to support program evaluation and continuous improvement, contributing to the effective delivery of benefits and the well-being of North Carolina’s firefighters and their families. This position may have travel throughout the 100 NC counties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration.
  • Considerable knowledge of program objectives and standards in the area of assignment.
  • Prior experience serving in a EMT or Fire & Rescue role
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting policies and procedures.
