About The Position

Pending OSHR Approval "The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles” is looking for motivated and energetic people to join our team. The primary purpose of Customer Compliance Services is to provide fair and impartial administrative hearings and records integrity on behalf of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in accordance with Chapter 20 of the North Carolina General Statutes and all applicable policies and procedures. This Unit promotes highway safety in a manner that preserves the legal rights of licensed drivers. This unit also serves as a liaison between DMV and the Administrative Office of the Courts responding to inquiries from the Clerks of Court across 100 counties regarding legal problems concerning driving records requiring an adjudication process of a driving record after interpreting and applying General Statute 20 Motor Vehicle Laws and guidelines in accordance with Division’s policies and procedures. This unit also serves as a problem solver and adjudicator to all NC motor vehicle records to ensure records integrity. This position serves as a liaison between DMV and AOC and responds to inquiries from Clerks of Court, judges, and transportation agencies regarding legal issues affecting driving records. The role demonstrates the ability to manage multiple programs independently and simultaneously while functioning as a Help Desk resource for internal staff across various units to ensure the integrity of motor vehicle records. The position requires reviewing court documents, DMV records, and other legal materials, with the ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal documents in order to make immediate decisions on suspensions, revocations, and limited driving privileges, including determinations related to hearing eligibility. This position provides an adjudication process to driving records that requires interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, regulations, court decisions, and Division policies, procedures, and General Statute Chapter 20, Motor Vehicle Laws. The role also includes gathering and analyzing data or information and composing technical and administrative reports. Additionally, this position resolves a variety of customer driving record issues that do not require a hearing and evaluates eligibility for reinstatement of driving privileges. The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: working knowledge of AOC/Clerks of Court, legal knowledge of driving records, and customer service regarding legal records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to make fair and impartial decisions through knowledge of General Statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies, DMV personnel, District Attorneys, trial lawyers, judges, and/or law enforcement officers.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook Mail, Calendar, SAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to enter and extract information from mainframe and web-based computer systems and applications.
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret and explain departmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience exercising good judgment and working independently to provide high quality customer service to a varied audience.
