South Carolina AHEC administers the state’s financial incentive programs for health professionals who practice in rural and underserved communities to improve the distribution of healthcare professionals statewide. The Program Coordinator reports to the Program Director of the SC AHEC Recruitment and Retention Programs, working collaboratively to document, coordinate, optimize and execute processes that support the administration of these programs. This role supports current and prospective participants in South Carolina’s Recruitment and Retention Programs and works with South Carolina’s Family Medicine Residency Programs. The South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC) is a state agency that connects students and professionals with the tools, training and resources necessary to develop an effective healthcare workforce, with a focus on primary care in rural and underserved communities. While the SC AHEC Program Office is administratively housed at MUSC, it is a separate state agency with its own state line-item budget and some independent state reporting requirements. The SC AHEC System consists of the Program Office and four regional AHEC centers located across the state. More information about the South Carolina AHEC System is available at www.scahec.net.
