About The Position

Legal Aid DC is seeking a Program Coordinator to support the DC Resource Bridge. Since 1932, Legal Aid has provided civil legal assistance to clients in individual cases and engaged in systemic reform, offering representation in consumer law, domestic violence/family law, housing, public benefits, appellate matters, immigration, and assistance with collateral consequences of criminal justice involvement. Legal Aid identifies opportunities for law reform, public policy advocacy, and systemic impact and appellate litigation based on client experiences. The organization is committed to racial justice and equity, aiming to reflect the diversity of the communities served and empower staff and clients. The DC Resource Bridge is a citywide project designed to streamline access to legal services for DC residents through a single point of entry, available by telephone, online form, and in-person intake starting in June. The Program Coordinator will perform a combination of front desk, intake, programmatic, and administrative support duties for this project.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to racial, economic and social justice
  • Experience engaging with individuals who are in crisis or dealing with trauma
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Microsoft applications
  • Any of the following: Paralegal certificate, Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, Equivalent relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity working with online databases or case management systems
  • Familiarity with legal, social services or public benefits systems through lived and/or prior professional experience
  • Working proficiency or fluency in Spanish or Amharic

Responsibilities

  • Staff the front desk at Legal Aid DC’s SE office 2-3 days per week, including: answering the phone, interacting with walk-in applicants (helping applicants fill out registration forms and explaining the intake process), assisting with any deliveries, other administrative tasks
  • Staff one of our courthouse intake sites 1-2 days per week, including: interacting with walk-in applicants (helping applicants fill out registration forms and explaining the intake process), other administrative tasks
  • Provide programmatic and administrative support to the DC Resource Bridge, including: review new voicemails and completed online intake forms; create records for new voicemails; and assign matters to Navigators; return voicemails and connect applicants with Navigators; coordinate and participate in outreach with partner organizations; create presentations for tabling events and partner meetings; order supplies and track inventories; manage invoices; help manage requests for interpreters and document translations
  • Serve as a point of contact for partner providers who need technical assistance, such as updating profiles and assisting with training new staff
  • Assist Navigators with technical problems
  • Work in-person up to four days per week, as operationally needed, at any of the following locations: Legal Aid DC SE or NW DC offices and DC Superior Court
  • Other duties as assigned
