About The Position

STATUS: Non-exempt Part Time (16 Hours per week) HOURLY RATE: up to $23.00 SUMMARY Lead staff for development and on-going work for the Partners in Caring deaf program component. Responsible for the recruitment, screening, orientation, training and recognition of deaf or ASL fluent volunteers for the Finger Lakes Caregiver Institute Partners in Caring Respite Program. Maintains volunteer records and manages volunteer database. Works with the Respite Team in matching volunteers with families. Provides oversight and support to the FLCI volunteers. Assesses safety and eligibility of the person living with dementia /family caregivers to receive non-medical companion care/respite. Provides ongoing support to caregivers receiving a FLCI volunteer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Service or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience working in volunteerism helpful.
  • Working with the deaf population.
  • REQUIRED: Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Must be able to multi-task in a busy environment with attention to detail.
  • A portion of the work is performed at a desk or at a personal computer station.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary
  • Excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills required.
  • Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Some standing during group presentations, outreach events and professional development.
  • Computer skills (MS Office). Database and Excel experience preferred.
  • Ability to complete reports utilizing basic math and Excel skills.
  • Ability to travel by car. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain composure under deadlines.
  • Ability to work inclusively with diverse people and situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience working with people who have Alzheimer’s Disease/dementia a plus.
  • Volunteer recruitment and management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Arranges and conducts community presentations for visibility of FLCI Partners in Caring deaf respite program component and recruitment of deaf and ASL fluent volunteers.
  • Conducts outreach to community groups, faith communities, and volunteer organizations.
  • Participates in the recruiting, coaching, training and monitoring of respite volunteers who are deaf and/or fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Maintains acceptable level of active volunteers for program.
  • Meets, screens and orients individual volunteer applicants. Conduct and schedule volunteer orientation and training.
  • Provides ongoing support for volunteers, including counseling, periodic check-ins and answering questions.
  • Gathers and maintains data and files regarding volunteers and care receivers, and program files.
  • Utilizes Excel, PeerPlace, and Better Impact databases.
  • Processes volunteer hours and mileage, including data entry. Support volunteers in use of the Better Impact Database.
  • Provides reports as required – both computerized and manual.
  • With team, coordinates volunteer recognition program for all FLCI volunteers.
  • Assists in preparation of newsletters and other outreach to volunteers and partners.
  • Assists in ongoing program and volunteer surveys.
  • Conducts assessments of people living with dementia and their family caregivers for non-medical respite care in-homes of clients.
  • Provides ongoing support to family caregivers receiving FLCI volunteer, including appropriate resource referrals.
  • Maintains up to date professional knowledge of the geriatric field, with special focus on Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
