The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community. The Division of Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) works to provide families and children the critical supports they need to thrive and exercise self-determination. CFWB leverages concrete resources, stakeholder relationships, and community and family strengths to drive toward greater equity and social justice, reduce disparities and disproportionality including in the child welfare system and create conditions that foster well-being for families and children across New York City. Our work includes the provision of childcare assistance; support for caregivers and child-serving professionals to prevent child injury; and investment in community-based approaches. The Office of Child Safety and Injury Prevention (OCSIP), within the ACS Division of Child and Family Well-Being, promotes strategies and interventions that address sleep-related infant injuries, Shaken Baby Syndrome, and child poisoning caused by exposure to inadequately stored medicines, household cleaners cannabis-infused edibles and other substances, as well as other significant causes of fatal and severe unintentional injuries that primarily affect children under age six, who are more vulnerable to injuries and fatalities.
