About The Position

Young Community Developers (YCD), established in 1973, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering residents of historically underserved communities in San Francisco. YCD employs a holistic approach through education, workforce development, and social services to foster economic mobility and break cycles of poverty, serving approximately 1,200 community members annually. The Phoenix Project, a key initiative, offers relentless outreach, one-on-one coaching, and multiyear trauma-informed support to participants in four HOPE SF communities (Hunters View, Alice Griffith, Sunnydale, Potrero Terrace & Annex) and two Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) sites (Oakdale and Harbor). Utilizing a bio-psychosocial-cultural-spiritual (BPSS) framework and collaborating with eight community-based partners, the Phoenix Project provides comprehensive services including life coaching, educational/employment support, behavioral/physical health services, peace promotion, and barrier remediation, specifically targeting young people who may not thrive in traditional programs. The Program Assistant will support the Phoenix Project Director by serving as a resource, rotating across all Phoenix Project sites, completing intakes, interaction notes, and assessments, referring clients to community resources, and transporting clients to and from educational or employment opportunities as needed. This is a temporary, non-exempt position with a 2-4 month assignment, requiring 30 hours per week, in-person, Monday-Friday from 12:00pm-6:00pm, with occasional additional evening hours.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years involvement working in Bayview Hunters Point or other nonprofit organizations serving Community
  • Comfortable engaging with and supporting the following communities: Sunnydale, Potrero Hills, Hunter’s View, Alice Griffith, Oakdale RAD and Harbor RAD
  • Clearance of TB test and fingerprinting are required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean DMV record to operate YCD vehicles
  • A creative individual with a passion for social change and an interest in non-profit development.
  • Familiar with former public housing sites
  • Evidence of high emotional intelligence with proven competence for verbal and written cultural communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience and ease developing relationships and skillfully working with a diverse community of colleagues, partners, and clients.
  • Track record of successful task prioritization and execution with exceptional time management and organizational skills and ability to self-manage and follow through to reliably meet multiple, concurrent deadlines.
  • Tact, professionalism, diplomacy, a sense of humor; ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of Young Community Developers Inc. and to individuals from diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Support organizing activities for transitional-age youth across Phoenix Project sites
  • Support front office directing residents to Phoenix Project Services
  • Drive company van to transport deliveries to various Phoenix Project locations
  • Identify and cultivate long-term relationships with target audiences
  • Input demographic data in grant management systems (GMS)
  • Support Program Director with submitting monthly incurred expenses to Fiscal team
  • Record/photograph Phoenix Project special events to support marketing to community
  • Participate in outreach promoting services to residents across Phoenix Project sites via community flyers
  • Use good interpersonal skills communicating with residents and partner agencies across Phoenix Project sites
  • Work well in areas heavily impacted by trauma. Be versed with establishing boundaries and understanding the role as a service provider within the community
  • Understand and adhere to outlined company policies and procedures to ensure client activities are handled with firm standards
