About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources Operations, the Program Analyst, Disability, Leaves & Workers Compensation is responsible for leading the activities associated with disability leave programs and the implementation and application of laws, guidelines, regulations, CSU policies/procedures, and contract provisions governing leave of absences and return-to-work­ matters. The incumbent may receive work direction from Human Resources management for duties involving confidential information that pertain to employee relations matters, labor relations, benefits, fitness for duty/functional capacity evaluations, and additional leave programs. The Human Resources (HR) department at Cal Poly leads workplace strategies that enable employees to thrive in their roles. Through traditional practices like recruitment, payroll, benefits, employee relations, information systems and performance management to strategic practices like professional development, organization development, workforce planning, and engagement, Human Resources is dedicated to cultivating the excellence of our approximately 6000 employees.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret and apply university policies, collective bargaining agreements, and federal/state laws (including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PWFA, ADA, FEHA, and California Workers’ Compensation) with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Working knowledge of human resources procedures, including, but not limited to: benefits, retirement, disability, leaves of absences and workers compensation, Family Leave, and disability leaves.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise employees regarding leaves of absence and other related human resources issues.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism with prompt and frequent follow through.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to assess complex issues and propose solutions.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
