About The Position

Provides quality, loving, safe care for elderly participants; assists participants in moving throughout the ADC, assists participants in performing activities; provides personal care and grooming of participants; assists the licensed vocational nurse with taking and recording vital signs; monitors participant’s health and safety while visiting the Adult Day Care. Key Responsibilities: Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure and healthy manner. Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children’s mealtime encouraging conversation. Exhibits control of the children and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same. Transports or assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times. Assists in leading children on field trips. Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, table, vehicles, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely observing all laws, regulations, and policies. Ability to pass DOT requirements to drive a Salvation Army midbus or other DOT vehicle if requested. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One to two years’ work experience providing care to the elderly or people with disabilities in a human services or medically-related program, or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.
