About The Position

Assists with operating the Corps’ After School Program and Sports Programs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in teaching, childhood development, mentoring, recreation and/sports preferred
  • Prior experience working with children in a structured setting
  • In-service training will be required
  • Ability to relate to children, parents and fellow staff from many ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to demonstrate a mature leadership example to all
  • Ability to facilitate and participate in games and physical recreation activities
  • Ability to work independently and on a set schedule
  • Ability to demonstrate a teachable spirit
  • Ability to perform duties reliably and in a timely manner
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Ability and willingness to present Bible lessons in a manner that aligns with Salvation Army doctrine
  • Driving is required. This position requires a valid driver's license from the state in which the employee resides. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, creating and implementing activities
  • Instruct and participate in program and sporting activities
  • Provide youth supervision
  • Maintain and administer program rules and policies
  • Help plan, prepare and serve food and snack
  • Provide child transportation using Salvation Army vehicles
  • Help to maintain program records
  • Maintain building security
  • Provide general cleaning and maintain appearance of areas used by the program
  • Change bulletin boards monthly
  • Report any repairs, maintenance, safety or security needs promptly to supervisor
  • Inventory and maintain equipment
  • Supervise volunteers as directed
