About The Position

The Center for Violence Prevention and Community Safety at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a qualified candidate for a supervised, part-time (20 hours a week) staff position. The selected candidate must be available to work in person at the Tucson Police Department (TPD). They must also be able to pass background checks by the TPD and ASU. The qualified candidate must also possess an undergraduate degree by the time they begin work. This position involves performing routine tasks, including accessing TPD data systems, basic data entry from data files, and compiling information for entry into a CDC database. They will also be responsible for assisting the project manager with routine project-related tasks. This position is eligible for ASU employee benefits and for participation in the ABOR Employee Qualified Tuition Reduction Program. Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Problem Solving: Experience troubleshooting basic computer/technical issues and a demonstrated ability to learn new software and navigate multiple platforms quickly.
  • Teamwork: Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to work different days/hours as needed.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic writing and grammar skills.

Responsibilities

  • Correspond with police department officials, faculty, staff and students in-person, via email and or by phone in a professional and courteous manner within established limits.
  • Follow process steps as outlined in standard operating procedures; demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Assist program leaders in carrying out research projects. Tasks include but are not limited to: writing incident narratives, inputting data into CDC portal, and monitoring Slack accounts for updates on research instructions and guidance.
  • Consult with program leader(s) and department leadership as needed to troubleshoot issues; elevate issues to appropriate person(s).
  • Participate in trainings as needed to maintain program associated certifications and remain current on job functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the continuity of department operations.
  • Must be able to pass an ASU and a TPD background check.
