About The Position

United Action for Youth (UAY) Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Programs provide services and supports to youth experiencing homelessness. We provide outreach services, supportive residential services, aftercare services, and coordinated case management and advocacy. We serve youth ages 12-21 in various sub-programs including: Under program lead program advocate supervision, provide counseling and support services to youth clients. Work includes coordination with collaborative providers, other UAY staff, and the program participants. Provide individual counseling, coaching, skill building and training, advocacy, problem solving, and case management through a strength-based approach.

Requirements

  • Two years prior experience working in social services or crisis services.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Excellent problem solving, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills.
  • Proficient communication, organizational, task and time management skills.
  • Experience in homeless management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for youth program participants.
  • Design, develop, and deliver skill building trainings.
  • Provide age-appropriate information to youth participants and their families
  • Coach the development of goals, strategies, and practices to help program participant identify how to successfully incorporate positive change.
  • Assist participants in obtaining needed social services.
  • Facilitate participant identification of barriers to reaching goals.
  • Take initiative in problem solving, crisis intervention, and de-escalation efforts.
  • Exercise sound professional judgement and discretion.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate participant case files, including required paperwork and forms, case notes, reports, and confidential information.
  • Work within a team approach collaborating with external community partners and other UAY staff.
  • Participate in weekly case management meetings and regular consultation with staff.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by program director.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of resources, services, and opportunities available to youth and families.
