About The Position

Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty member to serve as open rank Professor of Theology. This reports to the Chair of the Division of Theology and Humanities. The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Theology or a closely related field. A required path to completion with a letter from committee chair is required for ABD candidates. The successful applicant will teach required and elective theology courses within the Christian Formation and Ministry major, as well as generalist courses that meet general education requirements. Opportunities to teach at the graduate level may also be available. Requirements

  • The successful candidate will hold, at a minimum, a PhD in theology or a closely related field and will have significant academic and/or professional experience.
  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate prior success in developing connections with undergraduate students in and outside of the classroom.
  • Hold an earned doctorate in theology or a closely related field
  • Demonstrate a significant level of academic experience, including undergraduate teaching experience and a record of academic publications
  • Be a dynamic educator and scholar who is capable of engaging the university community and the broader community in dialog regarding matters of faith
  • Demonstrate the ability to grow the Christian Formation and Ministry major by successfully recruiting undergraduate students to the major
  • Have experience in ministry and church leadership
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop relationships with local churches and their leaders
