Founded in 1867, and located in Washington, DC, in our nation’s capital, Howard University is a historically Black College/University and Research 1 (R1) institution with a distinguished legacy of advancing knowledge, leadership, and service in pursuit of social justice and equity. Serving 400 students, the Howard University School of Social Work offers two MSW concentrations: Direct Practice and Community, Administration, and Policy Practice. These concentrations are delivered through two program platforms, on-campus (Flagship) and online (Starship). The School offers specializations in criminal justice, health, mental health, family and child welfare, displaced populations, and social gerontology. We also offer three dual degree programs: MSW/MPH, MSW/MDiv, and MSW/MBA. Additionally, the School offers a Ph.D. in Social Work with specialized areas of scholarly inquiry. Grounded in the University’s enduring motto, Truth and Service, the HUSSW prepares scholars and practitioners committed to improving human well-being and addressing the structural conditions that affect marginalized communities. The School’s guiding philosophy, the Black Perspective, further shapes its intellectual and practice framework through our curriculum and faculty scholarship that examine social and economic injustice, social determinants of health, behavioral health, poverty, and disparities effecting quality of life, particularly for African Americans and other historically oppressed populations. Our School has been continuously accredited during its 90-year history. We are a highly ranked graduate/professional program at the university having been ranked by the U.S. News and World Report among the country’s top-20 MSW programs. The School of Social Work seeks candidates for two open-rank faculty positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor), with rank determined based on qualifications and experience. Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching, research and scholarship, and service consistent with the mission of the institution and the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education. The University is dedicated to attracting and sustaining a cadre of faculty who are, through their teaching, research and service, committed to the development of distinguished, historically aware, and compassionate graduates and to the discovery of solutions to human problems in the United States and throughout the world. With an abiding interest in both domestic and international affairs, the University is committed to continuing to produce leaders for America and the global community.
