About The Position

The Professor of Music and Worship Studies teaches undergraduate courses in music and worship, mentors students preparing for careers in education and local church ministry, and contributes to the ongoing growth and accreditation of the Music and Worship Studies Program at Boyce College. This position includes responsibilities in classroom instruction, conducting, applied studies coordination, ensemble leadership, student advising, and service to the institution. The ideal candidate will bring both musical excellence and a commitment to the gospel to shape students for faithful service in the church and the marketplace.

Requirements

  • The person in this position should hold a terminal degree (DMA, PhD, or equivalent) in music, worship studies, or a related field. A strong foundation in church music and theological education is expected.
  • The person in this position should have significant teaching experience in music and worship, ensemble leadership, and applied instruction.

  • Local church ministry experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a regular load of undergraduate courses in music history, music theory, applied music, and related areas in accordance with program needs and faculty expertise.
  • Serve as Coordinator of Applied Studies: oversee applied lesson faculty assignments, juries, proficiency tracking, recitals and instructor communication.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to music ensembles, including rehearsals, tours, special performances, and institutional events.
  • Advise undergraduate students in course planning, degree progress, and vocational discernment.
  • Contribute to program development, NASM accreditation assessments, and student learning outcome reporting.
  • Coordinate student recitals, juries, supervised field education, and capstone projects in collaboration with the administrative assistant and Teacher Education Program.
  • Assist with recruitment of prospective students, attend Preview Days, and participate in auditions and promotional events.
  • Maintain an active ministry and scholarly presence in the field of worship and church music.
  • Serve on institutional committees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Dean of the School.
