About The Position

Sight & Sound is an organization comprised of people with diverse talents coming together as one in Christ to tell His story through who we are and what we do. This opportunity is for specific areas of interest in our Animals Department. The intern will spend the contracted with the Caretaking and Training teams will be Tuesday-Saturday 7am-3:30pm. Weeks spent with the Animal Handler team will be balanced between dayshift and show-shift typical Tuesday-Saturday 9:30am-6:00pm or 1:30pm-10:30pm. Adjusting accordingly to not pass 40 hours per week. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the Caretaking Team in feeding and watering animals, cleaning and re-bedding stalls, bathing and grooming animals, and general barn maintenance. Supporting the Training team in preparing the animals for the stage, assisting in setting up music, effects, LED screen, and set pieces to best simulate show conditions for training, animal waste cleanup, spend 1 on 1 time with animals to build trust, receive lessons in proper animal handling techniques, and assist in training sessions with actors. Supporting the Handling Team in daily husbandry activities, shadowing animal handler tracks, helping handling team keep the animal areas clean.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, with an accredited post-secondary educational program. Priority will be given to students in the second half of their educational program.
  • Willingness to interact with all Show Operations departments (such as Deck, Lighting, Wardrobe, Stage Management, Audio, and Cast) to learn and understand interactions with each of the show ops departments in a professional theater.
  • Flexibility to support the Animals team as needed, including a wide range of hours.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn through a variety of experiences.
  • Ability to receive both affirming and constructive feedback.
  • The ideal candidate must be eager to learn, have a positive attitude, and a willingness to adapt as needed.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary degree program.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about the mission, culture, and daily operations of Sight & Sound Ministries, Inc.
  • Shadow a range of Show Operations departments (i.e., Deck, Lighting, A&E, Audio, etc.), as well as Guest Services departments.
  • Attend weekly leadership development sessions (Lunch & Learns) with other company interns where leaders from throughout the company will present a variety of leadership and cultural topics.
  • Support various Show Operations departments by performing daily tasks for the Animal Department.
  • Attend show operations and company meetings, training sessions, and events to gain further understanding of what it looks like to work in a professional theater.
  • All other duties as assigned
