About The Position

UPMC Hamot is adding a part-time Professional Staff Nurse to the TNICU! $7,500 Sign-On Bonus for Experienced Nurses! Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience. We are currently hiring an experienced, caring, compassionate, team-oriented nurse with a passion for learning who excels in critical thinking. The TNICU is a 16-bed unit on the second floor of the patient care tower. The exceptional care provided in this unit contributes to UPMC Hamot’s certification as a Level II Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Silver Beacon Award Unit. Some of our specific patient populations include: · Trauma · Surgical · Kidney Transplants · Neurosurgery · Hemorrhagic Strokes requiring Neurointervention The TNICU stands as a beacon of hope and healing for those facing critical traumatic, surgical & neurological challenges, delivering world-class care with compassion and dedication. The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and an essential member of the care delivery team. This role is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered nursing care while establishing and upholding standards of practice. The Professional Staff Nurse exercises independent clinical judgment and is accountable for the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for patients and their families. Through leadership, collaboration, and partnership with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, the Professional Staff Nurse promotes optimal patient outcomes across the continuum of care and demonstrates a commitment to the nursing profession and the community served.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care to the patient populations served by the assigned unit.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan, with the ability to assess patient data and identify age-specific needs in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Zero to two (0–2) years of nursing experience required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with executives, managers, physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients and families.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment while managing multiple and changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Demonstrated clinical judgment with strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and support others in the application of the nursing process.
  • Physical requirements include mobility, visual and manual dexterity, and stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the state where the facility is located or a multistate license issued by a participating Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) accepted, where applicable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required based on American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within one (1) year of hire or transfer.
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required within six (6) months of hire or transfer.
  • Act 34 clearance required.
  • Graduate Nurses must successfully complete the RN licensure examination within six (6) months of hire or within one (1) year of graduation, whichever occurs first.
  • Employees working under an out-of-state NLC license who later establish residency in the state where the facility is located must apply for state licensure within 60 days of residency change.

  • UPMC-approved national certification preferred.
