About The Position

The Professional Skills Instructor is responsible for teaching individuals valuable skills that can be used in a professional setting. He/She is responsible for creating a conducive learning environment and ensuring that the learners understand and apply the skills taught. He/She is responsible for supervising and assisting students in the program in developing employment and other appropriate workplace skills. These skills are essential for integrating students into competitive, integrated employment opportunities in an office setting within the community. He/She will ensure that the quality of services is consistent with Arc Prince George’s County's mission and values.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree from an accredited College or University in Education or related field and at least two years’ experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Education or related field and three years of experience; or a high school diploma and at least five years of relevant experience supporting adults with varying abilities.
  • A teaching certification or a certificate in adult education.
  • Experience in a teaching or training role; experience designing and implementing training programs; experience with e-learning platforms and practices.
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in MS Office, and excellent customer service skills; a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Expertise in the subject matter necessary to deliver engaging and relevant lessons that meet the learning outcomes of the course; a strong understanding and command of the topics you teach, including effective communication, teamwork, leadership skills, and problem-solving.
  • The ability to use various teaching methodologies and tools to cater to different learning styles and enhance the learning experience; strong knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in office settings.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan lessons, manage classroom activities, and track learners’ progress; strong problem-solving skills to address learners’ questions and provide effective solutions to learning challenges.
  • A patient and approachable demeanor that helps learners feel comfortable expressing doubts and difficulties; excellent communication skills to articulate complex concepts in a simple, understandable manner; strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with learners, facilitate group discussions, and foster a conducive learning environment.
  • Strong coaching skills; dependability; the ability to work productively with other team members to develop strong professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, engaging professional skills training program; develop and implement weekly curriculum schedules and comprehensive lesson plans that cater to the needs of individual students.
  • Provide instruction in a variety of professional skills such as typing, software training, digital literacy, workplace dynamics, conflict resolution, communication, team building, career development, and industry-specific competencies; prepare students for future professional growth by teaching them how to apply their skills in real-world scenarios.
  • Assess students’ skills, knowledge, and productivity through various methods, such as exams, quizzes, assignments, and presentations, to identify areas of improvement; provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their learning and development.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs and interests of students.
  • Collaborate with the Skills Trainer and management to ensure consistency in the learning experience; provide supervision to the Skills Trainer(s), ensuring the fundamental rights of persons in the program are protected.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in professional skills training; participate in professional development activities such as workshops and training sessions to improve teaching and coaching skills; complete all mandated trainings on time; ensure trainings are completed on time.
  • Track and report on training outcomes and program effectiveness; maintain and submit reports and data collection; complete all regulatory reports in the required timeframes; completes paperwork and reports accurately and within the proper time frames.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development; ensure daily log notes and attendance are completed, reviewed, and accurate; record all contacts with student team members, significant interactions with interns, and other incidents in student contact notes; complete and submit incident reports and follow-up reports as needed for students in the electronic health record system; maintain files for all program records and forms; maintain files for all students in the program.
  • Assist in recruiting eligible applicants to the Office Skills Training Program, orientation, and training for students and/or staff; assisting in securing internships at local businesses that will provide students with real-world experience; ensure students are provided appropriate job coaching and supervision within internship and employment settings.
  • Serves as the primary contact in mitigating problematic issues regarding students, Skills Trainers and/or internship sites; attend PCP meetings.
  • Ensure the daily schedule for the students is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Respectful when interacting with students, co-workers, and outside agencies; demonstrates effective and respectful communication skills when interacting with others; demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Other relevant tasks and duties as assigned by the Division Director; perform other similar duties as responsibilities necessitate.
