Job Summary Aretum is seeking a skilled and motivated Professional Librarian. As a Professional Librarian you will be assisting our client in service desks needs and responding to information requests.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS).
  • At least two years of experience in a library or archive (5 years of experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree).
  • Strong background with agriculture, food, environmental science, or related disciplines.
  • Candidates should understand library bibliographic records, MARC records, and metadata.
  • Library reference, research, and customer support experience.
  • Understanding of literature searching and search string construction.
  • Travel to client locations is required for this position and may vary based on project needs.
  • Due to federal contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.
  • This position supports a federal government contract and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination, depending on the agency’s background investigation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the service desk and reference chat a minimum of one shift per day providing reference and research support for basic and complex information requests.
  • Monitor the client service desk and complete reference and research support information requests or assign high-level subject specialized requests to appropriate staff members.
  • Perform service desk triage duties and assign requests appropriately at least once per month.
  • Learn and search specialized print and online agricultural and food information resources and provide clear, authoritative, and appropriate responses to customers.
  • Become proficient with client services and resources, databases, and platforms to provide customers with high-quality responses and service.
  • Support user experience for both physical and digital collections.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to client, reference, request queue and all service desk issues.
  • Contribute to service desk FAQ and recommend improved workflows, as needed.
  • Support projects suitable for the contractor’s skill level based on the internal competency matrix.
  • Fulfill FOIA requests as assigned.
  • Support assigned bibliometric data calls or projects.
  • Support ad-hoc assignments.
