About The Position

The Professional Librarian II – Resource Management & Systems Librarian is responsible for managing and optimizing the library’s electronic resources, collections, acquisitions, and core library systems in support of the academic, clinical, and research missions of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the Advocate Health enterprise. This position requires independent judgment and advanced expertise in electronic resources, collections, and library systems. The role applies advanced technical knowledge to electronic resource lifecycle management, collection development and assessment, acquisitions, authentication and access systems, vendor and consortial coordination, and data-driven decision-making. The position works collaboratively with campus partners and enterprise stakeholders and serves as a technical contributor to enterprise library integration initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA)–accredited program required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in an academic or medical library required
  • Demonstrated responsibility in one or more of the following areas: electronic resource management, collection development and assessment, acquisitions, digital resource management, or library systems
  • Advanced knowledge of resource management, acquisitions, and collection assessment
  • Strong understanding of scholarly medical and clinical resources, including databases, e‑journals and e‑books.
  • Experience working with integrated library systems and discovery platforms (e.g., Alma, Primo, LibKey)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with institutional IT, information security, procurement, legal partners, vendors, and consortial groups
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret usage, licensing, and financial data
  • Ability to manage multiple complex workflows and priorities independently
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance awareness

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with proxy and authentication systems, including EZproxy and OpenAthens
  • Proficiency with Excel for data analysis, reporting, and financial tracking
  • Experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence and data visualization tools
  • Familiarity with Celus, SUSHI, or other COUNTER-compliant usage harvesting and analytics platforms
  • Experience with Alma Analytics or comparable reporting tools
  • Ability to synthesize data across multiple systems to support assessment and decision-making
  • Experience supporting enterprise-level, consortial, or multi-campus library initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of electronic resources, including selection, acquisition, licensing, activation, renewal, cancellation, and replacement of databases, journal packages, e-books, and other resources
  • Ensure reliable discovery and access to electronic resources by managing authentication, holdings, linking, and platform performance across library systems and vendor environments
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the library and institutional IT, information security, procurement, legal/contracting, vendors, publishers, and consortial partners
  • Lead electronic resource licensing and contracting, including review and negotiation of pricing and terms related to access rights, usage, data privacy, indemnification, renewals, and compliance with institutional and consortial requirements
  • Coordinate vendor relationships and communications, including trials, renewals, platform changes, access troubleshooting, and service performance
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate usage statistics, cost data, and access metrics to inform purchasing, renewal, and cancellation decisions
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of physical and digital collections using quantitative and qualitative measures to support stewardship, accreditation needs, and program alignment
  • May manage all or a portion of the library’s collections and electronic resources budget, including expenditure tracking, renewal forecasting, and invoice reconciliation
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, standards, tools, and workflows to improve access, systems reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support communication and promotion of library resources and acquisitions
  • Participate in institutional, vendor, and consortial meetings related to electronic resources, systems, collections, authentication, and access management
  • Serve on committees and working groups supporting enterprise library integration initiatives
  • May supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff and contribute to planning for technical services and collections operations
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
